We went further into the Chapter 13 PowerPoint by going through Module 39 about the solar and wind energy sources. There are a lot of exciting changes taking place related to these energy sources!
After a quiz over the Ch.12 and Ch. 13 reading, we quickly went through the Chapter 13 - Module 37 an 38 PowerPoint about energy efficiency, biomass energy sources, and hydropower.
Students were given time to work on the Energy Calculations Packet #2.
Packet #1 was handed back to them so they could see the feedback given. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CURRENT WITH THE READINGS AND YOUR STUDY GUIDE WHEN YOU COME TO CLASS TOMORROW!! Wink, wink Today, the topic was nuclear accidents. In addition to the information in the textbook, we watched 2 videos about each case study: Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima, Japan. Some of the video are from the original news coverage of these events. All videos are posted on the Assignments page of this website.
Mr. Young was gone.
Students used computers to access Module 36 from the Chapter 12 PowerPoint that discusses nuclear power. We went through the Chapter 12 - Module 35 PowerPoint about fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas).
With our shorter period as the result of the assembly, we finished Module 34 of the Chapter 12 PowerPoint.
Mr. Young was gone.
There are two major topics in APES where math is important and expected: population and energy. Because of this, were are going to put time and effort into practicing energy calculations and conversions throughout this unit. Students worked on an Energy Calculations Packet today. In order to provide feedback, the answers are posted on the "Assignments" tab of our website. I started the class by showing a short video: 300 Years of Fossil Fuels in 300 Seconds and then began the Chapter 12 - Module 34 PowerPoint about nonrenewable energy sources.
We continued work on the Energy Sources Packet using the .pdf files from the NEED Project. These are due Monday.
