We went discussed forest management, forest fires, and national parks as we continued the PowerPoint for Chapter 10 - Module 30.
We went through the Chapter 10 - Module 29 PowerPoint about land use and started Module 30.
We finished the film "The End of the Line". Students now have enough information to write a very good response to question #5 in the Unit 6 Study Guide.
I handed out the Unit 6 Schedule and the Unit 6 Study Guide. Today we started the video, "The End of the Line". It explores the problem of overfishing and the specific fish extinctions that can/will result. Students were asked to fill out question #5 in their Unit 6 Study Guide that relates to this video.
UNIT 5 EXAM (FRQ)
We completed two Free Response Questions: a concept one and a math one for our Unit 5 Exam. UNIT 5 EXAM (MC)
We took the Multiple Choice section of our Unit 5 Exam. We went through the Chapter 7 - Module 23 PowerPoint. Included in this section is quite a bit of information about urbanization that is not explicitly in our textbook.
Today we watched a video called Earth 2025: Population Explosion. It featured Hans Rosling from gapminder.org and addresses many issues regarding population growth including how we got to 7 billion, where we go from here, and that our idea of a world divided into 1st-World/3rd-World is no longer true.
Students were given a notes sheet that they could fill as they watched the video. Today we completed an activity/demo to see if we could model the demographic transition by looking at the generation sizes of our own families. We looked at the number of children at our grandparent's generation, our parent's generation, our generation, and how many kids we wanted to have in the future. We loaded the data into a spreadsheet and discussed the results.
We then continued discussing the demographic transition by going through a PowerPoint and filling out a chart that compares each stage of the transition I handed back the Population Calculation worksheet so they can get feedback about how they did and then the rest of the period was spent working on a Population Math Practice sheet. This new sheet includes questions very similar to those that will be on the math portion of the Unit 5 FRQ.
