We went through the last part of the Chapter 11 PowerPoint.
We started the period by reading and discussing an article about GMF's, or Genetically Modified Foods. Here's the wrinkle: half of the students got an article called "The Holy Grail in a Grain of Rice" and the other half got an article entitled "Babies As Guinea Pigs". No one knew that there were two different and oppositely biased articles out there. The point was to show that two people can look at the exact same situation and draw two different conclusions based upon how the discussion is framed and their own personal opinion. This type of situation will come up again throughout the rest of the year.
We then, very briefly, continued the Chapter 11 - Module 32 PowerPoint. We got most of the way through the Chapter 11 - Module 32 PowerPoint. It focuses on the green revolution and the changes in agriculture that lead to a massive increase in food production.
We went through the Chapter 11 - Module 31 PowerPoint about nutritional needs of humans and what foods we eat.
We went over the Unit 5 FRQ so the students could get feedback on their performance, and then I handed out the unit 6 FRQ options.
Since one of the FRQ questions is about forest fires, we watched an 11min video called "The Age of Megafires." This video (and 2 others) are posted on the assignments page. |
This blog explains what we did in class each day. Any files mentioned are available on the corresponding pages of our website.
